our story

Positive Birth Malta was born in 2017 as part of the international Positive Birth Movement, an international grassroots movement spread across the world. In 2021 the organisation of the global network of groups was brought to a conclusion on an international level however in Malta the midwives facilitating this group decided to continue this work on a local level so as to continue supporting childbearing families locally and creating a space for positive birth.

Positive Birth Malta is facilitated and organised by four midwives however it is led by the women and the childbearing community. We organise regular free-to-attend discussion meetings. Anyone interested can attend; women, men, pregnant couples, children, birth workers, doctors, doulas, grandparents, stakeholders  … anyone who is interested!

The aim of the group is to create a space for women and their partners to make their voices heard, to feel empowered and build a community which supports women and birth. By coming together, in real life and online, and sharing experiences, feelings, knowledge and wisdom, women and society can create a move in Malta which advocates for positive childbirth. Advocacy for local parents will always be at the heart of Positive Birth Malta. This has been evident in the public talk & walk, the lobbying for paternity leave and local survey of over 500 participants which showed clear evidence for couples to know their midwives and more choices in pregnancy, birth & postpartum.

We have started 2024 with a fresh new look, logo and are excited for the next chapter of Positive Birth Malta!
